“It hasn’t struck me yet,” Czyz said. “I haven’t really gotten a chance to stop and think about it.”

“It hasn’t hit me yet,” Hunt said. “But I’m sure on Saturday when I walk out there with my parents it will hit me.” Read more »

YRIGOYEN MAKES PITCHING DEBUT: Garrett Yrigoyen’s first trip to the mound in his Wolf Pack career couldn’t have gone any better.

Yrigoyen, who has started at third base the past two seasons at Nevada, pitched 1.2 innings in relief in Saturday’s 9-1 victory over the Utah Valley Wolverines and didn’t allow a baserunner. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound senior struck out three and tossed 13 of his 21 pitches for strikes. Read more »

20111221_bb_150The Nevada Wolf Pack men’s basketball team has a lot of respect for the Fresno State Bulldogs.

“They are scrappy,” Pack guard Malik Story said. “They’re small but they play hard.”

The Wolf Pack’s respect for the struggling Bulldogs (12-16, 3-8) stems from three consecutive Wolf Pack losses in northern California. The Wolf Pack (22-5, 10-1), which will play at Fresno State (12-16, 3-8) Saturday night, hasn’t won in Fresno in almost four years (March 8, 2008), since Marcelus Kemp had 25 points and eight rebounds and JaVale McGee had 23 points and 14 boards in a 76-63 win. Braden Shipley 150-1Brady Shipley is not afraid to ask for what he wants.

“He came to me and said, ‘I want to be the guy,’” Nevada Wolf Pack head baseball coach Gary Powers said. ‘”I want to start on Fridays.’”

Starting the first game of a three-game weekend series is not a role Powers hands out to just anyone who walks into his office. “Not a lot of guys have the courage and confidence to come in and ask to start on Fridays,” Powers said. “For him to do that, it says volumes about him.” Read more »

Dario Hunt wasn’t Nevada battle born but he feels like a native of the Silver State just the same.

“It’s the longest I’ve lived in any one place in my life,” the Nevada Wolf Pack center said recently.

Hunt, the son of two Air Force veterans, has only been in Nevada since the summer of 2008. But for the likable 6-foot-8, 230-pounder, that makes him silver and blue through and through. Read more »

20120120_bb_notebook_150It doesn’t bother David Carter at all that his Nevada Wolf Pack isn’t ranked among the Top 25 college basketball teams in the nation.

“I think we’re a very good basketball team but if you look at the teams we’ve beaten, maybe some of those teams aren’t as good as we thought they might be,” the Wolf Pack head coach said. Read more »
