Tanner Roderick 150-1He was the Montana Gatorade Player of the Year, and put together one of the greatest single seasons of football in the history of the Headwaters state.  Tanner Roderick, who stands 6-foot-3, 195-pounds, not only led his team to its first state championship since the start of World War I, but he did so by posting some of the greatest passing and rushing numbers in state history.

Devonte Elliott 150-6The Wolf Pack are on their first roll of the season, winning three straight and climbing up the Western Athletic Conference standings.  They now stand at 4-3 overall, and with Fresno State visiting Lawlor Events Center next, Nevada can take another step forward in the race for a WAC crown by avenging one of their early season road losses.

LT-Nevada 150-2A year ago, Nevada sported a 12-8 record on January 23rd, suffering an 87-77 thumping on the road by Fresno State. The loss also dropped the Wolf Pack to 4-3 in the Western Athletic Conference.  Although Coach Carter’s second team is a lot less experienced and sits an almost polar opposite 7-13 on the season, you’d be hard-pressed to find a fan of the Silver and Blue who doesn’t believe that the current Nevada team is more exciting and has more promise.

Pack grind out third win in a row

LT-Nevada 150-1Reno, NV – Coming off back to back wins for the first time this season the Nevada Wolf Pack (7-13, 4-3) extended their winning streak to three games against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (9-11, 0-6), losers of eight straight, Saturday night at the Lawlor Center with a 66-58 victory.  The win wasn’t pretty, but with a young team a win is a win.

David Carter 150-13They’ve taken their lumps in 2010-11, but Nevada hoops is current on the rise.  The young Wolves have surged just as the second half of the season begins, with freshman Deontè Burton leading the way.  The former Los Angeles All-City star is averaging 21.3 points over the Wolf Pack’s past three games, and leads the team in assists and steals. Burton has also canned more free throws than all but one Nevada player has attempted.

Deonte Burton 150-13After winning for the first time away from Lawlor Events Center during the 2010-11 season, the Pack are eyeballing a three-game homestand as their chance to put themselves back in contention in the WAC. They took a step towards that goal on Thursday night by putting a thumping on New Mexico State, 90-71, and evening their conference record at 3-3. Still, Nevada has a long way to go in order to show their 1-7 start to the 2010-11 campaign was a fluke.

Cheer 150-1Although the Wolf Pack sport a not-so-good overall record at 6-13 (3-3 in the WAC), they do have a 5-3 overall home record at friendly Lawlor Events Center.  That’s no surprise for a youthful program like Nevada, with 10 of its top 11 scorers playing their first year in Reno.  But after a 1-7 start, David Carter’s second year club is starting to come around.  Led by the play of freshman standout Deontè Burton, Nevada is rising.
