UCD-Nevada 150-1Reno, NV –  After dropping a frustrating game one to the first place Hawaii Rainbows the Nevada Wolf Pack fought back in game two showing no mercy as the Silver and Blue shut out the Rainbows in a 10-0 win that was stopped after seven innings due to the mercy rule. Long-time Nevada head baseball coach Gary Powers was pleased with the way his team bounced back and even more pleased with the pitching performance he received in the second game.

Round the Rim: Finally, the Charge Circle

Basketball, Featured on May 5th, 2011 3 Comments

RTR 150-6As you can already tell from the title of this column, ‘Round the Rim is a huge fan of what many have labeled as the “Charge Circle” coming to college basketball next season.  It seems like it has taken forever for this extremely important, game changing dotted arc to arrive in the NCAA ranks, and in many ways it has.  The NBA adopted a similar rule, known to all as the “Restricted Arc”, way back in 1997.  So why has it taken so long for this rule to come to the NCAA hardwood?

Ehrlich earns Pack offer

Kendall Ehrlich 150-1Prior to the 2010 season, Nevada made a concerted effort to recruit the always talent-laden state of Texas.  As it usually is in most cases when it comes to college football, it takes more than just a year to get results. But the Wolf Pack staff is making a strong push, even offering 2012 linebacker prospect Kendall Ehrlich earlier this week.  A 6-foot-1, 205-pound OLB, Ehrlich preps at Pearland high school, the top team in the Lone Star state this past year after winning the Texas 5A state championship.

BSU-Nevada 150-3The last seven days have been extraordinarily kind to Nevada fans.  Colin Kaepernick has been tapped as the franchise quarterback for the de facto hometown San Francisco 49ers.  Dontay Moch, like Ray Lewis before him, has a chance to become a dominant NFL linebacker under the tutelage of Marvin Lewis.  Virgil Green will make Tim Tebow look better than he actually is by scrambling down the Gator’s wild ducks as a tight end for the Denver Broncos…

Colin Kaepernick 150-40If there is one team that Wolf Pack fans predominantly follow in the NFL it would have to be the San Francisco 49ers.  Even the hiring of former Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh this offseason was closely followed by Nevada fans, and Harbaugh’s subsequent presence as the keynote speaker at the 43rd annual Nevada Governor’s Dinner in early July now makes the event that much better with the news that San Francisco has selected Colin Kaepernick as his quarterback in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft.
