Moore to lead RB core

Casey Moore 150-1When long-time Nevada offensive coordinator and O-Line assistant Chris Klenakis left for the University of Arkansas two years ago, the Wolf Pack were fortunate to have his protege, Cameron Norcross, already on the staff.  Sometimes you just happen to have the right in-house candidate.  That appears to have happened again, with the promotion of Casey Moore to running backs coach after the departure of Jim Mastro to UCLA. Moore, who spent this past spring leading the RB core, is certainly ready for the challenge in front of him.

‘Round the Rim – ‘11 or ‘12?

Dario Hunt 150-7With ten young players returning, including senior big man and potential WAC Player of the Year candidate Dario Hunt, Nevada is looking to build some depth in their program.  They have three open scholarships and plenty of recruiting targets, however, with the end of the late signing period almost here and an upcoming dead period (May 19-28) a signing doesn’t appear imminent. So should the Silver and Blue faithful resign themselves towards targets in the 2012 recruiting class, or hope for a few late additions in ‘11?

UCD-Nevada 150-1After losing four out of their past 5 games, Nevada baseball needed a shot in the arm.  They got it by taking both ends of Saturday’s doubleheader against visiting Sacramento State, winning 10-7 in the opener and 8-3 in the nightcap. Sophomore second baseman Joe Kohan went 2 for 5, blasted his 4th homer of the season, scored 3 runs and drove in another 3 over the course of both games to lead the Nevada attack.

Over the past two months we’ve been on the prowl for 2012 quarterbacks, and the one young man we keep coming back to over and over again is Miramonte’s impressive Ross Anderson.  Although we know a number of fans have yet to really hear that much about this lead Matador, he’s a long-striding, 6-foot-5, 190-pound quarterback that has drawn comparisons to Wolf Pack legend Colin Kaepernick from numerous onlookers and Miramonte coaches. When you toss Kaepernick’s name around, the only quarterback in the history of college football to throw for 10,000 yards and rush for over 4,000 yards, that’s going to catch our attention.

Chris Forbes 150-1Terra Nova high school quarterback Chris Forbes is one prospect that is taking a very active approach to his recruitment.  The Pacifica (Calif.) native has summer trips planned to SMU and Arkansas, plus West Coast looks at San Jose State and Nevada. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound slinger will also be competing in a pair of combines, with one in the Lone Star state and another nearby his hometown at the NIKE Training Camp in Palo Alto.

Cannon Fodder: The Eyes of Texas Are Upon Us

Texas Football 150-1From all appearances, it seems that Nevada Defensive Coordinator Andy Buh has made some clandestine strikes deep into the heart of Texas.  As A.W. Prince has reported, Buh has made scholarship offers to two rising junior stars in Pearland linebacker Kendall Ehrlich and Bush (Fort Bend) defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah.  Admittedly, these offers came as a surprise to me.

Unknown 150-1As we reported last week, Nevada is staying busy in the state of Texas.  They continue to recruit a handful of prospects, including their most recent recruiting find at Fort Bend’s Bush high school.  Emmanuel Ogbah, an Associated Press 5A All-State Honorable Mention in 2010 who stands 6-foot-4, 230-pounds, is one heck of a talented defensive end. Silver and Blue Sports caught up with the rising junior for the latest on his recruitment.

The University of Nevada football program has built a tremendous tradition over the past decade in large part due to their recruiting success in the Central California area.  Former quarterback Colin Kaepernick and tight end Virgil Green, both recent NFL Draft selections who hail from Turlock and Tulare, respectively, are just two of the prospects that were recruited by Central California Wolf Pack recruiter Barry Sacks that developed into stars for the Silver and Blue.

Hawaii-Nevada Baseball 150-1Reno, NV –  The Hawaii Rainbows came into Reno and collected a 3-1 series win after taking both games on Saturday, including a 4-0 shutout victory in the finale.  After losing two of three to start the series Nevada wanted to salvage at least a series split with the WAC’s top team. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.  Nevada head coach Gary Powers pointed to the pitching after the weekend’s losses.
