Incoming Sun Belt commissioner talks expansion (AP)

Incoming Sun Belt Conference Commissioner Karl Benson wants his new league to expand. Benson, the longtime Western Athletic Conference commissioner, was introduced as the Sun Belt's next leader Thursday. The 60-year-old Benson will replace Wright Water, who is retiring after 12 years. He will begin working with the Sun Belt on April 1 and take over as commissioner in July. >> more

This offseason has been about building toward a brighter future at San Jose State, where coach Mike MacIntyre received an early contract extension on Jan. 25 and promptly delivered a heralded recruiting class on the first day of February.
The Spartans secured commitments from 20 players on National Signing Day, including a promising quarterback from the community college ranks and one of the top high school running back prospects in Texas. San Jose State's recruiting class was rated 99th nationally by Scouts recruiting services, second to only Idaho in the Western Athletic Conference.
The Spartans are losing 11 starters from a team that went 5-7 and nearly became bowl eligible in their second season under MacIntyre. >> more

San Jose State football coach Mike MacIntyre has agreed to a contract extension through the 2017 season. Athletic director Tom Bowen announced the new deal Wednesday. The announcement gives MacIntyre more stability one week before national signing day. The 46-year-old MacIntyre went 5-7 in his second season with the Spartans for the school's best finish in five years. >> more
