It really is pathetic what you find on other news stations. I feel like Fox does a do good job, even if they are slanted to the right they have tons of democratic strategist and what seems to always be liberal professors from NYU and Columbia on to even it out. Best show they have is Red Eye

There have been two studies done that showed Fox to be the most balanced. One was by Princeton University the other I can't remember. Their hosted shows definitely lean right, but their news is more down the middle. The rest of the news channels and network news is left of center. Not that what they report is wrong, they just choose not to report news that damages the left with the frequency and enthusiasm with which they go after the right.

I dont understand why dont they change the way they do things. The way the ratings are I wouldnt care about my political values and I would try to draw more people in to watch and in turn have a more successfu product.

I've never actually seen a news show on Fox. Do they have those?
Seriously, I don't watch cable (or national) news at all. I'd rather read it on the internet and form my own opinion. I think news.google.com (http://news.google.com/) gives me pretty much all the national/international news I need to know.

Yes, evidence to the contrary cannot pierce your ideology.

74% of republicans trust Fox news and no more than 23% trust anybody else for their news. They didn't give a number, but a majority of democrats trust every other news organization and 30% don't trust Fox news. Independents don't trust any of them. This country would be a lot better off if people would think independently.

Given the demographics of those who actually watch the news on a daily basis, is this poll really that surprising?

I make a point to read several different articles on the same subject from different sources that I consider to be on different sides. I do a pretty good job of thinking for myself.

Nope. It is important to note that not even Fox is trusted by 50% of the people on a whole.

I think you can trust pretty much all the news organizations to report most stories accurately. What most choose not to report is what bothers me. They want to be gate keepers. Fox fills a gap is all it does. I barely watch any news and get almost everything from the internet.

I'm a college student and pay no attention at all to the news except to what may be on or overheard in passing.

Yeah, but we're talking less than one % point to 50%. :)
There's no doubt that Fox's commentary shows have gone even more to the right since Obama took over (no more Colmes, as worthless as he was, adding Beck, Greta even having more conservative guests on than before). However, when it comes to the straight news shows with reporters like Major Garrett, etc. it's straight down the line as balanced as it gets. I really appreciate that.
As far leaning right as some of Fox's commentary shows are, MSNBC is even more far to the left with Maddow, Olbermann and Shultz, and primarilly deal in mean spirited hate mongering on top of the normal spin you would expect a left leaning outfit to have. They've got the Sean Penn market sewed up, but their ratings won't grow being in that limited niche.
