The thread about our attendance got me thinking. I'm not sure that Nevada attendance isnt the norm on the West Coast... Other than Oregon, BSU, CAL and USC I can't think of any team that sells out on any sort of regular basis? Attendance at FSU is very good too I guess but I know UW, WSU, UCLA, SDSU all struggle with filling up their respective stadiums. Stanford knocked out something like 15,000 seats to ensure a full looking stadium and we all know how poorly many of our WAC games are attended.
So is it poor to mediocre performances... I mean none of the teams listed above ( other than Stanford, SDSU) last year are big time teams anymore.
Or is it the fact that we (a general we) on the west coast just don't care for football as much as the rest of the country?
Or is it really just bullship and all struggling programs suffering with bad attendance and we just think it us?

Because there's more to do out west than there is on the east coast.. The weather and terrain back east can't compare to what's out here.

I don't think that football is as big out here in the west than in the rest of the country. I don't why either, and I can't think of anything that we are more interested in than the east and south? What the heck are we doing with our spare time here???

The West has more nature loving hippies, anyone who doesn't go to games obviously is a hippie. :p

You forgot Utah and BYU, they do very well attendance wise.

IMHO areas with strong roots and tight community ties are much better at supporting their teams. BYU and Utah, just like Boise State, fit that mold. But success also played a part with all three. It's tough to compare those programs with teams in San Fran, Phoenix or LA where loyalty is very much tied to immediate success and community ties are weak.

Very true...How does UW do? It seems like they always have good attendance when I watch games...

Nobody, but nobody cared about basketball until they got good. My company could buy pregame and postgame radio spots for next to nothing and we couldn't even give away the tickets that came with our support. The FB team has huge support, but after several years of losing attendance started dropping off. It's a tighter community up here than some other areas in the west thanks to Seattle's isolation and home grown industries like Boeing that employ whole families over generations. But it has changed a lot up here in the last 15 years.
Pro team attendance is very conditional. Win or they won't show up. When the Seachickens started losing fans stopped coming...same with the Ms. And we lost the Sonics partially for that reason.

Someone should really notify the NCAA about this board - you guys are figuring everything out!
