I came across this story (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4719172) on ESPN.com and got to thinking: with the new turf being installed at Mackay next year, why not take the opportunity to name it, too?

I read on the Aggie board a few months back that Merlin made a big donation toward the field.
I'm all for naming the Nevada field but not until the person we're going to name it for is retired.http://server308.serverquality.com/~sbs/forum/../../%7Esbs/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif

There is only one name I can see on that field. Unless someone comes in with a HUGE! HUGE! donation, to rebuild the whole stadium.

Well, I'm flattered, but if you're waiting for me to retire, I've still got quite a few years left. What about Coach Ault? He's done quite a bit, too. ;)

Stadiums make the most money by naming the field one name, and the stadium another. How about Silver & Blue Sports Field? :)
But seriously, maybe we could do a deal with a big corporate sponsor for 7 years for the field name. How about Microsoft Field? Microsoft is trying to make a bigger presence in the community and they sure have the bucks.

IMO, corporate names on fields belong in the professional ranks, stick to the big donors for college athletics (i.e. T. Boone Pickens Stadium)...Ault Field at Mackay Stadium has a good ring to it...

He's not going anywhere, so you might as well talk about something else...

Donar [ˈdəʊnɑː (German) ˈdoːnar]
n
(Myth & Legend / European Myth & Legend) the Germanic god of thunder, corresponding to Thor in Norse mythology
Geeze, man. I drop a deuce at your place one time and you just gotta keep bringing it up. Man alive! Let it go and next time leave the beans off the nachos.

If you can find a donor to pay out like a SaveMart, fine, but not in this town. Fresno's SaveMart Center basketball arena is why the big corps need to be involved and get the big stuff done. There's tons of corporate names in NCAA sports now, and there should be.
We should get a Ford, Microsoft, etc. to pay 10's of millions for the rights to the name of a new stadium, or the existing one that's majorly, majorly renovated. There's tons of corporate names/deals in FBS sports right now, and there should be.

:o Donar! You’re the god of thunder, not reverberation. I had to call a handyman to make repairs. NO MORE BEANS…ONE YEAR.
