Since you brought it up.

How many different formations do you run?

We run the Spread, I, Power I and Trips.

We pretty much really only have about 21-22 plays but we can run them out of any of our formations.

The one question I have is about misdirection plays.

we currently have one true mis direction play and could use another or two.

we run a fake 21/23 or 22/24 --- 47 or 48 Counter. Our 4 backs are fast but not big. So far they have 21 carries between them and 170 yards and 4 tds. as you can see it works pretty well but we can really use another. Any ideas?

Thanks.

When I run my offense, we have about 40 plays, but most of them are similiar. We run a very contrarian offense that would be best described as a hybrid wing t using the jet sweep formation as our base play. I can meet you in Reno sometime if you would like and go over your playbook or if you would like. I can send you a play that I will guarantee you will blow your opponents away and a counter to go with it. Save it for when you need it in a big game and it's always been unstopable.

What age group are you coaching? I ask because it really does dictate what you can do -- the I and Power I are pretty good for really youg kids.

They are 10 with a couple of 11's sprinkled in. We have speed in our backfield ...but little size on the line. Our 3 backs and 4 backs are fairly interchangable and our 2 backs are bruisers.

I would love to see the play you are talking about. my email address is rich@ampreno.com

We don't run much misderection as we try and be as North / South as possible. Our top running backs have the following stats.

#88 - 49 Carries 303 yards 6.18 YPC (2 TD's)
#68 - 39 Carries 195 yards 5.00 YPC (2 TD's)
# 18 - 18 Carries 186 Yards 10.33 YPC (2 TD's)
#34 - 13 Carries 80 Yards 6.15 YPC (2 TD's)
#3 - 8 Carries 90 Yards 11.25 YPC (2TD')

Those are all 3 backs and 4 backs

our 2 Backs are straight up the gut 3 yards at a time kids. The biggest run this year witrh any of our 2's is 14 yards. They just dont have the breakaway speed our 3's and 4's have.

between the 3 of them they have 31 Carries 109 yards 3.51 YPC (2TD's)

Your coaching an age group where it is takes a tremendous amount of practice time to run my offense and if your running the Power I, I would stay with it for the remainder of the year. I'll send you a download of the contrarian play we run -- I'll find it on my dvd's this weekend -- along with an explanation of when to run it and the counters to run off it once they figure it out. I will stop just short of guaranteing you a touchdown the first time you run it!

I'll also e-mail you our o-line routine we do each and every practice as it is without a doubt the most undercoached part of youth football.

Not our line however... :-) 30 minutes on Basics every practice.. they hate it but they need it!
