I was just watching some old games and came across a pic of the east stadium. I took a pic of the TV screen. The official attendance was 19,331. That means that over 1/3 (33% plus) seat were empty in the game. I remember that the west side looked about the same as the east side, and the south bleachers were almost full to the top, but not quite.....maybe 3 to 5 rows.

I see a few tiny empty spots, but not much. I have a hard time believing that there are 35% empty seats in the pic. I don't think all tickets are being counted that come through the gates. Something is wrong.

You have to remember that each "official" seat is only a section of bleacher 18" wide. So, if people spread out, so to speak, and occupy more than their allotted 18" it can look like there are more sold seats than announced.

I realize that, but does it look like there are 35% or so empty voids in the seating? Doesn't to me.

The AD travels with the team at times & has to be aware how SJSU FB & Fresno BB count attendance. Her reported claims of being honest to give students the right image is funny. How many students have stopped copying papers because of attendance issues?

The down side is it damages our image & hampers any attempt to move upward. I haven't figured out what it is but one starts to wonder if there isn't some ulterior motive.

I doubt there is an ulterior motive. I think she's just being stubborn

How many times are we going to kill this horse? Arguing about this subject is not going to change anything. Saying the AD is going to change the way we count attendance is like saying Ault won't be our coach next year. It is a waste of typing and space on this board.

For the bleacher seats, this means that if everyone takes up 24 inches instead of 18 inches, then the bleachers will indeed be 33% "empty." This is why I really have no problem with the announced attendance. Can you from a distance of 70-120 yards spot the difference between 18" and 24"? I know I can't. And every time this topic comes up, I have no problem believing that the area around us, in the heart of the south end zone, is 33% empty or more, simply because I almost never have anyone in the row directly in front of me.

I currently have season tix's for both the BC football and basketball teams and in conversation with their donor program person I found out that BC does what we do, actual attendance is what they report... ACC protocol. It does include giveaways, etc.
