Nice start by Nevada - getting some good shots. 10-5.

Of course, after allowing a lot of contact before the timeout, the officials call a much softer foul on Babbitt right after the TO. I just hope they can establish some consistency in the calls.

16-12 NV. Olson isn't as quick on his feet as Dario, and their big is getting to the basket easier. Guard drives in, Kraemer fouls. Shooting 2 after the TO.

Trying to keep folks updated who may not have a feed. Tulsa 1-2 at the line. 11:30. Hunt with a nice hook shot in the paint: 18-13. Then Hunt fouls their 7-footer on the baseline as he's attempting a shot. Tulsa's shot 10 FTs already, 2-2 at the line, now 18-15.

Quick 3 up top by Fields, 21-15. Or - just a 2. 20-15.

Tulsa is shooting very short on a lot of long shots. I wonder if having an NBA line on the floor affects the players a bit - makes them want to step out more? Could also just be tired legs.

Nevada 31-19 after a couple foul shots by Shaw.

Steal by AJ after Babbitt miss - Fields hits the 3; 34-19.

Maybe their coach should remind them that the LV housing market is overloaded. Really, I think that Tulsa looks tired. NEvada, however, looks like they still have lots of energy, even after the track meet yesterday. Nevada may be int he mid 40s by halftime, and Tulsa was reputed to have a pretty solid D coming in.

It all turned around when our guards were able to come over the top of the screens and not let them have an easy pop-and-shoot. Love the defensive intensity, especially by Kraemer and Johnson.

If Tulsa stays in the zone, give the ball to A.J. or Fields and make them slash the paint and kick it to the corners for an open shot.

Don't let the 18-point lead fool you... they need to still play tough in the second half.

I noticed that too with Fields fighting through screens and some better hedging by the forwards on a few occasions. It helps when Tulsa leaves a guy that can't shoot out past the 3pt line on the wing. He's occupying the spot where BYU always had a deadly 3pt shooter. It's like Nevada has 5 defenders versus 4 shooters for Tulsa.

Oh - him. I thought he was 33 for some reason. Olson looks slow against him. He's picking up some fouls and hitting FT's, but Dario is playing very solid defense on him - playing very well with his body.

Edit: oh, and he looks like McGee. Similar face, haircut. One of my early thoughts was "wow, is that really what it looked like to fans of other teams when they saw McGee down low?"

Double Edit: Evidently, he was 1-3 from the floor int he first.

Finally, Giles looked like a D-1 caliber player. Albeit against a bench of an absolutely demoralized team. I liked the confidence of him to drive to the hoop.

Feutsch...I can't help but be excited by this kid. The pace he can handle the ball with is nothing short of amazing for a walk-on. I almost wish we could see him running the point not during just garbage time. This could give Johnson an easier time to get separated and hit his mid-range jumpers or take it all the way to the hole. AJ has the talent that if he can get just a foot or two of separation from his defender, he'll break his ankles and get into the paint for the close shot or a dish to an open player once the defense crashes him.

Olson looked like a high school player, and I understand that's not too far from the truth. But that drop step he had for the lay-up looked nice.

Nyeko looks crazed out there. He's talented enough that he just needs to be confident in his dribble and run the offense. Not jumping around on the arch putting the ball between his legs.

Kraemer needs to get more off-the ball screens to open him up for more threes. Enough said.

Babbitt was absolutely stroking it in the beginning of the 2nd half. I think Chatter may have splooged himself because of the stroke of Babbitt.

Dario is a beast. He absolutely shut down Jordan who was so hyped coming in. He gave up 3 inches and I don't know how many pounds, yet absolutely owned him. Give credit to the help side D for this as well.

Overall the defense improved dramatically. We were coming off the top of screens, guarding the players who needed to be guarded and forcing the lesser shooters to take outside shots. The zone D that we play is going to come in very handy against bigger teams (Fresno, UNEP). It'll be hard for them to get that inside pass and then we can switch over to double or triple team any dominant big and force them to make an awkward cross court pass. One improvement that could be made is Armon being more cautious of trying to steal the ball when their big has his back to the basket. A couple times his defender saw this and was wide open for a long range shot, but lucky for us Tulsa couldn't capitalize in the slightest. Better shooting teams would eat that up. (Utah State)

Great game by the pack. Hopefully this shellacking gives us confidence that we can play on the road and beat solid teams. I think this is the first time we really didn't play down to the competition as has been the resume of the pack this year. We need to keep up the pace and remain solid on D. Go Pack!!!!

Go Pack!!!!

Thanks for the summary Tyson and welcome to the board!

It wasn't like we were giving BYU uncontested shots, BYU was hitting everything even with guys in their face. Glad to see the Pack finally get that elusive road win.

Yes but in the first half in the BYU game especially we were late if we were their at all. I have heard a lot of complaints about the back court players not fighting over screens It has seemed like our front court has had a hard time figuring when to rotate off there men to help out, This did not seem like a problem tonight.
