We have a bad rep for fan travel. It seems New Mexico didn't want us. http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/20091222/SPORTS04/912220345/Wolf+Pack+travels+light

I take anything written by someone named Ferd with a grain of salt.

We haven't traveled well for football in a long time and I wouldn't blame the New Mexico Bowl for feeling this way. At the same time, is there a less attractive bowl destination on the planet? Poor Pack players had to settle for Hawaii, how sad.:)

No way Fresno didnt travel at all. Thats why all the MWC fans were making fun. They only sold like 300 tickets.

Actually surprisingly SJSU is the only WAC team that traveled.

Last year, there were only like 67 tickets sold to Fresno fans. We can travel 3k+ to a place like Notre Dame, but during the holidays a trip to NM isn't the most inspiring thing to do for a lot of people. It all comes down to excitement factor (opponent, location).

I would not claim bringing 3,000 fans to Notre Dame as traveling well. The ticket allotment was 5,000. The Notre Dame game was arguably the most high profile game in recent Wolf Pack history, was scheduled well in advance, and was over a 3 day holiday weekend. Nevada should have had at least 5,000 fans there and we didn't. Lack of money and fan support will ruin our chances to move to the Mountain West or any other conference. I went to the Nevada vs. ND game and was disappointed at the turn out from Reno.

So maybe the Alumi Assoc, the Athletic Department, the school itself, Even the city, needs to do a better job of getting fans support together? I can understand a Hawaii trip as not being the one to go to since just going there is probably an automatic $1k per person. but the all other bowl games are a must.
Is it really that hard for all of them to work together? The school needs to realize that better conference representation and better conference affiliation means more students. Thus more $$$ all around! School and city!!!

Hawaii is paradise, but going to the bowl on short notice, for more days (two travel days) at Christmas time for more money makes the trip a tough one to make.
But truth be known, many fans don't travel well to Mackay Stadium.:(

The un-humanitarian bowl in spudsville would be a lot worse then new mexico IMO.

Boise is a nice town which is close to Reno. Nevada brought some fans to the game last year and they would have done the same this year. Flying to ABQ with two weeks notice is a far worse bowl destination.

Thats not a good thing to have known about your school... especially if we ever get over the hump and get an at large invite to a better bowl game. The economy sucks everywhere and the cost of going to Hawaii is pretty high so I can see why the fans aren't going. But this whole attendance thing is really starting to be a black eye for the program. I don't really know how to fix it other than winning.

For the record, apart from Hawaii -- NOBODY TRAVELS WELL TO THE HAWAII BOWL!

There is no doubt Nevada football fans are fickle and I think our reputation is well deserved, sadly. Then again, we brought 1,500 to San Jose which brought about 2,000 to their own home game so it's all relative! :D

We traveled well in the early to mid 90's. The fans are still there. But being in 1A is no longer an fresh excitement as it was back then.

The fans will be back, IF/WHEN the Pack starts beating some of these BCS teams, Boise and bowl games. That's the bottom line.

I'm still not over the first two games this year, so I can imagine how the fence sitters feel.

Pack needs to start tomorrow night. It IS big in the long run if we win. Need to string some together. If the Pack wins tomorrow, then combines it with a win over CSU (easy one IMO) and Cal next year, the city will start buzzing again.

If we can't put more than 20,000 in our own stadium on a regular basis, I wouldn't expect Nevada to travel 3,000-5,000 to anything, wherever it might be. Boise sold what? about 24,000 for the Fiesta Bowl?
