If you don't have the consumers to purchase your goods or services, there isn't a big enough tax break that will make you hire people. You will pocket the cash and most likely pay of debt or horde. Neither does the economy any good.

This recession is here for a long time. We had better get used to it.

Because a consumer based society needs consumers to INCREASE consumption or create more consumers to sustain viability.

The US can't do either. We aren't replicating at a pace any where near adequate enough to sustain the growth patterns of the post WW2 US economy and we don't have the resources to buy more and more because wage stagnation, inflation, rising housing, gas, food, clothing costs have raced ahead of pay increases. Then you add on the fact that the exploding population centers of the world tarriff the crap out of our goods making them unviable for export and BING.. you got the mess we are in.

Simple explanation but its the truth.
