That ego just cost them a very embarrassing loss. You have multiple chances to score at the 1 foot line and you decide to run it up the middle every time. Rather than do a play action after the first two, he's thinking "This is Fresno State and we pound the ball on people...no one will deny our running attack." And Christiansen knows about Hill's ego and throws everyone in the box to stop it and does.

Then in the game he stubbornly kept going with Mathews too much rather than get a passing game going to stop making them cheat on the run. But no, Pat has to show them that Mathews will run them over because FSU is tough.

That was what you call ego influencing what should've been smart football decisions.

One would think though that you can get 6", running three times in a row

Any TMQ reader can tell you, short and anything needs a little misdirection to succeed. Up the middle? Who do they think they are? The Dallas Cowboys?

After watching Ryan Matthews live against the Pack, and again today against Wyoming, I am not impressed. Perhaps Amaya's hit was still on his mind, but his fumble today was the turning point in the game. If I am an NFL GM I would be greatly concerned about his toughness and durability.

Call me crazy, but I'd take Luke, Vai, or even Ball over Matthews any day.

If you just watch his interview after the Illinois game, you will see that big fat head ego come out.

After hearing some of the stories that I've heard from people we know here in the valley who are much, much closer to the program, I'm glad they lost. Hill sounds like a complete jerk off.

Well, maybe I'm getting a bit wound up but he does sound like a guy who has no problem saying one thing and then doing another.

Let me start by saying that this will sound like I'm saying Mathews sucks but I'm not. I know he's really good. But here goes the rant..................

You're not crazy. Mathews has a ton of talent but I think Miller could have done just as well if he was being fed the rock that many times a game.

What if we handed Vai or Luke the ball 31 times in one game like they did Mathews today? Vai only had two games (Utah St and Boise) that he had more than 20 carries (21, 24). Luke had one game (Missouri) that he had over 20 carries. No one else on the roster had a 20 carry game. Mathews had three 30 carry games and five 20 carry games in a row mid season.

And honestly, they probably did that because of the little bit of momentum the buzz on "Mathews for Heisman" was getting.

And BTW, that 145 yards and 1 TD game at Cincy was on 38 carries (3.8 YPC) and the TD was a 1 yard run. BFD!!!!! The ONLY game that he was truely impressive in was the Boise game. He had ZERO pass catching TD's this season. His 6 games this season that he averaged over 6 YPC they were against: UC Davis, Boise, Hawaii, San Jose, New Mexico St, and Utah St. Take Boise out of that list and it's the bottom teams on their schedule.

By comparison, Vai rushed for over 6 per against EVERY team we played.

By the way, the announcer made a big mistake at the start of the game by saying Mathews was the only RB that had over 100 yards against Boise this year. Sorry, Taua had 160 yards against Boise.

As much as I don't like Hill, I was pulling for the WAC. There's some pretty cocky WYO fans on the MWC board, too. But at least maybe this will help convince some recruits (that we and FSU are going for) to bail on them and join the silver and blue. Now we just need to kick ass in Hawaii.

I, for one, wanted to see Fresno fall flat on their face. I can't stand the MWC pundits any more than the next guy and the fact they wanted Fresno St over us if they were to expand was ridiculous. Nevertheless, Fresno is still our biggest competitor in regard to recruiting so the worst they do the better we're off.

Good point. I guess I don't feel so bad now. :D

Members of the Union watching that game were probably going "No no no! You're doing it all wrong!" :D

But on the topic of this thread, compare how Coach Ault handled himself after his 200th win to how Coach Hill sounded after the Illinois game, and try to tell me with a straight face that Coach Ault has an ego problem.
