The size of the spill would stretch from Sacramento to Battle Mountain.
An interesting website. (http://www.ifitwasmyhome.com/)

Only no one would care if it was here.

Would the rest of America even care if the oil reached Battle Mountain, aka The Arm Pit of America as they call it?!?!

How thick is that layer? A few days ago I read that the oil leaked thus far would only fill 1/7 of the Superdome. I didn't research it for accuracy though.

I read the same thing, and it definitely gave me a different perspective on the spill (like, for every gallon of oil spilled to date, there's 5 billion gallons of water in the Gulf already, and, I think, thousands of gallons of water pouring in, too.
Plus, were the spill in high desert, it would soak into the ground instead of being spread by currents.
For me, it was just an interesting way to put the spread of the oil (however thin it may be) into geographic terms I'm more familiar with.

If you want to make some easy money...invest in some Maine based oyster farms.

Pearls before swine. I'm a leech on society, not a high-falootin' investor type!
