You'd think they would learn not to make promises they can't keep. But these "small guys" have to take all the money they can get. As an example is Nevada, Reid has $25-million compared to Angles $1.25-million. You can't wage much of a fight with that difference.

the system is set up for the haves... that's for sure. We need caps on money that can be spent on elections from the little jobs to the largest. I find it disgusting that a person is willing to spend 25 million dollars to win a seat and our kids have some of the crappiest schools in the country.
County - City: $150,000 - 200,000
State - $250,000 - 350,000
US Rep - $500,000 - 750,000
US Senate - $2.5 - 3.5 Million
President - $8 - 10 Million.
That does not include pay for staffers just straight out Advertising / Marketing.
TV / Print / Direct Mail / Internet / Radio et al... would have fixed prices for all people running for office that must not be higher or lower than the lowest rate paid that month for a like spot. If the lowest run cost for a spot on Oprah was $100 then each politician can get a spot on Oprah for $100 no higher or lower. But they have to get their buys in just like everyone else and if they buy too late.. oh well.

It seems like someone like Reid could easily fork over $15 mil to the school systems and get himself some really good publicity as well as help the thousands of teachers maintain jobs... that's thousands of votes...
