Speaking of 3s, I was checking the stats. The guy that went 4-5 on 3s for EW was only 5 for 24 on the season. The forward that hit 2 threes had only hit 4 all season.
Still, the main problem for this Pack team isn't depth or shooting. It's defense. EW hit 27 of 55 shots. Their bench was 12 of 23 for 31pts. 4 of their 5 bench players that took shots made over 50% of them.
We need DEFENSE! Boise, Idaho and Portland all held EWU to under 37% on FGs.

It takes some huevos to take the three with the game on the line when you're 0-3 on the day to that point. I'm glad Fields had the confidence to drill that shot - it was a thing of beauty.

EW hit some absolutely unconscious shots with only a second or two on the shot clock. The Pack certainly needs to tighten things up but the defense wasn't that bad..In the first half EW was able to get it inside but Nevada shut that down in the second half. It just came down to 4 Hail Mary 3 pointers from way out. Give the EW kids credit. They played as well as they possibly could. The Pack was a little flat but found a way to win a game when not much was going right. Not a bad win at all.

every person in that place was saying GOD NO! when he shot that thing- then it randomly went in for the fisrt time all night (for Fields). That was probably exactly what Carter drew up during that time-out.

Phew. The computers are inherently wrong ~25% of the time. They missed on the pace and they missed on the spread, but fortunately the Pack was able to pull it out. Great confidence by Brandon and a magnificent game by Babbitt. Hunt and Cukic did well. Hats off to Eastern Washington. They played lights out and made a ton of shots with guys in their face.

The team and coaches obviously believed in Brandon enough to entrust him with that shot. It says a lot about your team's chemistry when Luke -- with the night he was having -- still dished it to Brandon for the winning shot.

If it was drawn up that way it was smart. You know the EW coach said (Waterboy reference) "I don't care if you have to stab him do not let him score!" And they did double him. I am sure they figured Armon or Luke was going to take the shot. You gotta like the confidence that Fields is showing this year. That kinda shot will only build more confidence.

Im glad to see Brandon finding his groove. Especially as a senior. I guess better late than never.

The coaches said in the post game that it was absolutely drawn up that way as they expected a switch on D and a double on Luke leaving BFields open. Great call by Carter!!

Speak for yourself. Not all of us have lost confidence in Brandon.

I wasn't, though I also wasn't aware he was 0 for 5 at that point. It was a good clean shot though - wide open, set look.

I wasn't, for 2 reasons, he was due and it was a big shot. The second, was because worst case scenario he misses and after a fight for the rebound we end up in OT. I still felt we could win in OT, even though we were obviously pretty tired throughout the game.

I wasn't there since I'm out of town, but there has not been that kind of crowd reaction to a shot attempt since Javale's 3rd 3 attempt against Houston where it shocked him so much, he didn't even shoot it.

I think Armon's showboat dunk attempt in the first game got a similar reaction, but that was after the shot, not before.

I didnt think there was that kind of reaction from the crowd at all. It was an open shot and from where I sat, I knew it was going in as soon as it left his hand....I didnt hear a emphatic "javele type" no at all.

I agree with all of these. It was drawn up that way and was a perfectly set up play with great execution from Armon passing it to Hunt, getting it back, giving it to Babbitt, Shaw setting a screen, and Brandon making a great cut to get open and hitting the shot.

Nice use of the multi-quote function! This site amazes me everyday. :)

Not being able to copy and past box scores, stats and spread sheets is KILLING ME! I find some interesting stat or comparison every day that goes unposted because it's too much of a pain to get anything to format or to go the round about route of converting it to a jpeg.
Other than that I love it. But that's a big caveat.
All those basketball posts I used to do comparing Luke to Nick or AJ to Ramon and stuff? Not going to happen for now.
C'mon #1 and AW. Hook a brother up!
