Do any of you crazy hoops guys have any info on Malik? He obviously was talented enough to be recruited by Indiana and I was curious what kind of game he brings to the 2010 Pack roster.

Coming out of high school, Malik was one of the premier 2 guards in the country. He has insane athletic ability and had an NBA body as a Junior in high school. He played on one of the better HS teams you will ever find at Artesia of Lakewood back in 2007 and looked to be a sure fire super star at the division 1 level. Academic issues and off the court issues got him expelled at Oak Hill (its nearly impossible to get expelled at Oak Hill which is the home of wayward HS superstars). I honestly don't know the story behind his expulsion but I honestly don't care. If he can play anywhere close to the level he played at as a HS senior he will be an instant starter at Nevada and he, along with Luke, Armon and Dario are a 1, 2, 3 combo that anyone in the country will have a hard time matching up with.

I listened to an interview with David Carter and he said that people will be shocked at how good of a player he is. From what it sounds like it won't be a drop off at all from Fields to him. It might even be an improvement.

Carter also said it is great to have him practicing because he really pushes the starters. He also compared him to Kirk Snyder.

CAHUSKY i loved watching that Artesia team(Malik's junior year) him and James Harden of the Thunder and Renardo Sidney of Miss st. He had off the court issues, he was kicked out of Oak Hill Academy and tried to transfer back home to cali and had to sit out. He did play well at Indiana which is good. Big time athlete and scorer. I can see him starting and replacing B Fields at the 2, he is that ready to come in and play.

A friend from indiana said he isn't as great an athlete as some built him up to be and that he was more a pick and pop kind of offensive player.

I have seen him play a few times and he is not hugely athletic but he is very strong. I would compare him to Kemp minus a little funk and not quite as quick on his release. I would rate his talent level on par with Shaw.

That's what I read about him from some of the Indiana blogs out there. They said he was a great catch and release shooter but he was a defensive liability - not that quick and almost too strong. Makes me think Coach Carter's comparison of him as a linebacker isn't that far off.

I wish there was more video on him. You would think there'd be a ton of youtube videos out there on one of the top rated high school basketball players 3-4 years ago.

I also heard Carter state that he dropped 30 against the first team during practice and wished he had him this season. A big two guard that can muscle in the paint and score against smaller 2's? I'm looking forward to him suiting up next year.

Hate to resurrect this thread, but I would be concerned if he got expelled from Oak Hill.
