Does anybody here have even the slightest interest in watching it? Honestly I think it looks like a polished turd of a movie, but I think it'll make a decent amount of scratch just because Cameron's name is attached.

Other than the visuals though, there is nothing about that movie that makes me want to see it. Even the best part of it, the visuals, probably won't look as good as they should in 98% of the theatres it plays in, only digital and/or IMAX screens will do them justice. There's no good actors in it, plus the story looks like a half-assed matrix rip off set in a star trek-esque world at war.

My wife and I loved watching the Avatar series on Nick but from the look of the trailers it looks like just another beefed up Hollywood remake of a good simple show. We'll wait a couple of weeks after it hits the theaters to hear the reviews but this will probably be a movie we'll wait until it hits DVD.

It appears to be - "Dances With Wolves: The Video Game"

I'll watch it in BluRay.

I'm looking forward to it simply for the sake of the incredible graphics. Many people crapped on the new Star Trek film, but going into a movie with low expectations is sometimes better. I wasn't expecting much from Star Trek, but I thought it was a GREAT movie.

On the flipside, I saw Slumdog Millionaire after all the initial hype and was thoroughly underwhelmed. My expectations were too high going in.

That is a different movie, Avatar the Last Airbender which is directed by that crappy guy who did the 6th Sense(I'm not gonna try to even spell his name)

Ahhh that's why the latest trailers have looked so much different from the original trailer I saw a couple months ago. How confusing! Yeah, I'm not looking forward to watching a Shyamalan movie.

That's the thing, it just looks like another Transformers 2, all action and visuals and no substance. And IMO, star trek lived up to the hype in every way. Action was good, story was good, visuals were good, just an all around good movie. I just have a feeling avatar will be missing a story and acting. Just another movie from the michael bay school of movie making: make it loud, lots of explosions and CGI.

I have a number of friends in the VFX industry who worked on it; hell, most of the industry worked on it in some capacity during the past 4 years.

Because it's an industry I'm involved with and it is the bleeding edge of it, of course I'll go see it in theaters. I'm also curious to see how the 3D looks. Hollywood is searching hard for a way to get people out of their home theaters and into the cineplex, and this 3D technology is something they are hoping does that. However, If the story sucks, the movie will bomb. Titanic, for as crappy as the dialogue was, was actually a pretty darn good story, that's why it made so much money. Cameron sure knows how to spend money though. Wow! I've heard the true cost of this movie when all is said and done will be $500 million.

The story absolutely looks to me like Dances with Wolves meets Aliens. We shall see, it better be more Titanic than Abyss (a movie I really like by the way) or it may be another 10+ years before we see Cameron in the director's chair again.

Hey Thehowling - were you by chance at JJ's Pie company after the Pack game Sat. night?

First off this isnt a rip off of matrix. I have read that James Cameron wrote this back in the early 90s, way before the matrix. I give Cameron kudos because when you watch his earlier films such as terminator, they still amaze people today. To compare this movie to a michael bay film is way off target.

If you care so much about acting go watch Doubt or Revolutionary road, I just love movies where I am forced to watch "actors acting" such as those two. Dont get me wrong acting is important. In avatar aside from michelle rodriguez I dont think it will be terrible acting. I am not sure why someone said this was a nickelodeon remake.

I dont know if anyone is familiar with Rottentomatoes, but it is a website that complies reviews from critics across the country and right now they seem to say avatar is great

I'm actually quite encouraged after seeing its Rotten Tomatoes score. I won't go see a movie these days unless it's something I'm dying to see or has an RT fresh score of 80+.

This is a movie I would highly recommend seeing on the biggest screen you can get to.

Shamalamadingdong still owes me an hour and a half of my life back for "The Happening" -- Christ on a crutch that movie was AWFUL!! How he keeps getting movies to direct is a mystery to me.

What someone else said about "Avatar" being "Aliens" meets "Dances With Wolves" looks right on the money. With that said, Cameron's still a great director and I'm really interested in seeing how it all turns out.

Gotta say, it's derivative story telling but I loved this movie!

I'm still trying to understand how everyone seemed to love the new Star Trek. It was all I could do to not shut it down half way through. Biggest movie disappointment of the year for me.

I saw this today and I loved it. I'm a pretty picky movie guy and honestly I've never left a movie theater feeling like I was completely taken to another place. I didn't just watch Avatar, I felt like I experienced it. Sure the plot is predictable but the visuals make up for that 10 fold.

Yeah, I also thought it was very good. I saw in the 3D at the IMAX and it was great.

I am tired of movies that only have the visual aspect and no original story line. Was it a "pretty" movie visually? Yes. Was it a good story? No!! This story has been told. It was dances with wolves meets enviromental commercial. There was no hidin it either. I think they used the same Indian actors from dances with wolves. They could not even be creative about that.

Give me a good movie with a great story and acting over visual effects and 3-D. Where is a movie like Usual Suspects when you need one. Blind Side is 100x more enjoyable than Avatar. Avatar is like that really hot girl that looks great but then you hear her talk.

I plan on seeing the movie at the theater. Some movies I just wait and see on-demand, but the visual effects will be best enjoyed on the big screen. Anyway, I like both Dances with Wolves and Alien, so I will check it out.

I saw it last night with the wife and I totally agree. My wife on the other hand hated it (I'm guessing because it either didn't have Sarah Jessica Parker or vampires in it).

You definitely want to see it in 3-D if possible. I could care less about the story line in this one - I'm was there for the visual experience. Not to have my brain tickled.

I haven't seen it yet but one comment I will make is this: I hate it when people act like every movie ever made is supposed to win an academy award and if it's not oscar worthy then it sucks. That's just not the case. Some movies are made to just go and have fun and watch some crazy $hit on the screen.

If the story is less than average but the visuals keep your eyes moving non stop then that's fine with me. It's the ones that have crappy dialog, crappy story, and are slow/non-action that I can't stand.

I thought the story was meh, but the visuals were nice, and I was entertained. There are certainly worse ways to spend a couple hours. And about halfway through, I stopped thinking about "wow, that was some impressive artwork" and started suspending my disbelief. I think that's essential in a movie like this - if all you ever notice is the background, it's because you really have nothing better to watch.

It was almost painfully predictable at times, but hey - the same is true of plenty of other movies I've enjoyed. Want avant garde, then go see some indie flick. If you want predictable, go with a big budget blockbuster.

I found the overall experience to be unique, so it more than made up for the predictable story line. I do believe that this movie is something that should be appreciated in theaters, however. If you are waiting for the DVD, I doubt you'll get the same impact....
