My wife and I made a decision years ago to not participate in V-Day because it's a useless holiday. I don't need the florists, Hallmark, and society telling me when and how I should tell my wife that I love her. Why can't I do that on any of the other 364 days of the year? And I often do. I contend that flowers and the like are more special when they are unexpected, not when the calendar says you have to. I contend V-Day is a day for men that cannot say I LOVE YOU to have an outlet to say it without saying it. It should be an expression of love rather than an obligation. What say the masses? Am I way off base here? Damn I need my own talk show. This would be a great topic.

I use to think the same thing, but I think V-Day can be a good thing too. You are right a day should not be made where it needs to remind a person to express their love but having a day marked on calendar to just celebrate your togetherness I think it can be something to look forward to every year not saying every other day your affection towards your significant other be placed aside. Just like how it is more special to barbeque on Memorial Day and 4th of July, or eating a turkey on Thanksgiving, it is just as special to do something just as cheesy on Valentines Day.

Hallmark might profit off of valentines day...think how much Farmer Johns profits from Thanksgiving or whatever.

Agree.

It has its quirks and irritations more so than other "holiday's", but there is nothing wrong with recognizing the one you love on this day. Yes, even though you recognize her the other 364 days. I won't spend $150 on flowers, because like KOH, I give my wife flowers 10 other times during the year, but I'll get her flowers and a card. I even went over board this year and am got her a necklace for my son to give her. It is life...

My wife still gets jokingly mad at me for sending a singing valentine to her office a few years back. I did it just as a joke and to have a little fun. Her embarrassment was her gift to me. I would encourage KOH to do the same.

I am not married so I may be out of my league, but this sounds like a concession she made to you years ago. If she has many girl friends, I bet she still cares about V-Day.

Actually, no. She really dislikes the holiday. She was the one that brought it up to me.

LOL....took the words right out of my fingers. You know, if you don't celebrate Valentines Day (is it ironic that it is abbreviated VD???), then you can't celebrate March 14th either....and that is my favorite holiday of the year. March 14 (http://www.steakandbjday.com/). I don't mind anyone telling me that I have to celebrate S&BJD. The fact that I get it on March 13th doesn't lessen how special it is the rest of the year either.

Seriously though, if it works for you and your wife, then that's all that matters. Personally, I enjoy Valentines, but that's because I'm a true gentleman who isn't ashamed to be a romantic....be it on Feb 14 or any other day.*

*note - I am no gentleman on March 13......I'm just plain nasty that day. :D

Sounds like you won the lottery! I have fun on Valentines Day these days but some women in my past made it like I was competing with friends and co-workers husbands or s/o's. This sucks! Don't you guys hate that one guy that makes some big showy romantic gesture in public and you get sh*& the rest of the night for not being more like Mr. Duche.
