What impact will the almighty Gillenwater and McKines have if they do become eligible? Right now it is plainly obvious that this team has given up on Menzies, and each other. Can these two, provided they become eligible,,salvage the season? I have a huge dislike for all things UNEP, but think this is worth debating as the strength of the conference was supposed to be us, USU, and UNEP

As an integral part of the cabal that acted to hijack the original UNEP thread, I'll post a topic-specific reply on this thread in an attempt to apologize.

All humorless humor aside, I believe McKines and Gillenwater or just one of them alone could stabilize that team, provided they haven't cashed it in for the season. It seems clear that Menzies is not a coach who exerts a lot of control on his team and they take that attitude out onto the court. McKines is probably the more important of the two, since he brings a real workman's approach to the court. I, for one, am hoping they both become eligible and get the season redirected. It does the WAC no good to have one of the better basketball programs in the league implode.

If they do indeed both come back then I predict them to start playing well by conference play. probably finish conference play at 10-6 and possibly make a run in the tourney. However if only 1 of them return, it won't be enough to salvage the season.

Dude, I was just signing on to the board to brag about my new underwear, but I see that you beat me to the punch. I'm glad that you're as excited about them as I am, though I'm a little concerned about how you knew about them. But I digress......I'm going to shout it from the mountaintops!! LAMBSKIN UNDERWEAR HAS CHANGED MY LIFE!!!!! Them being pink is a personal choice and neither adds nor detracts from the enjoyment derived from wearing them, but I think it's pretty awesome nonetheless.

The damage has already been done. If one or both come back, I could easily see NMSU keeping any WAC teams from an at-large bid and dragging down any seeding of the automatic qualifier also. I don't wish them ill-will, but I don't particularly want them to come back at this stage either. Being back for a few OOC games and then the conference schedule hurts the conference more than them not coming back.

1. There is a quote function on this forum, use it.

2. "backcracker" is a slight improvement over Posterdick. Thanks.

3. Is it true that you plan to never wash them, causing them to become rather stiff and abrasive?

Getting McKines back would be a god-send for all this teams on-court woes. Getting the Gillenwater would be even better. Most of our offense runs through the high post, and the current replacements just don't get it done from there, partly because they don't move the ball crisply and partly because they aren't a threat to score. Our 3point% is horrible... 26%, when it was 40% a year ago. It's a combination of bad shots (see no ball movement) and opponents ganging up on our only interior threat, Rahman.

I agree that Wendell is the most important. Dude brings nothing but hard work and good vibes, and his teammates love him. He's our glue.

Read that one, all I can say is WTF. We needed NMSU to be good this year, I wonder who else couldn't get it done in the class room if this guy turns out to be correct. As he states he is 11-1 on his "predictions"

Loosing a player like Wendell is bad for the WAC. He is a smart player and a major college talent. Good competition raises your level of play.

It's getting worse. From their board new reports the two did not make grades. And now accusations from a former regent president that the athletic administration has been misusing donor funds. Still don't know how they hired Boston with his shady history.

I can't address the why of Boston's hiring, but I have a feeling that with a new president coming in, the men's basketball failures (NMSU is a basketball school), the Mumme buyout, and now this donation issue, that if Menzies is fired after this year, Boston will be gone too, and we'll be starting from square 1.

Trouble follows Boston and I really think you guys will be better off when he's gone. His oversight on the programs and players is weak and it's been one drama after another. There are plenty of good administrators out there.

And one time number 1 ranked recruit Derek Character scored 3 points in his UTEP debut.

Caracter looked talented but rusty. And it looked like he was expecting Big East reffing re: pushing and shoving under the basket. He'll be a contributor by the end of the season, but needs to lose about 15 lbs and hit the weights. A walk-on grad student (http://www.nmstatesports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=1900&ATCLID=1612611)was pushing him around.

NMSU won because the Miners couldn't keep the NMSU guards out of the lane.
