Was praying for another rabbit out of the hat like Metcalf to help us save face from all the decommits. Virtually devoid of impact players now that Mobley picked Colorado. Secondary needed a boost and we go from Derron Smith to Evan "no recruiting profile available" Favors. Damn that hurts! Just a bunch of 1 star offensive lineman. I hope Ault hits on Fajardo because I don't recall a class this insignificant since maybe Tisdel's first year?

If you haven't realized by now, you can't rely on the Rivals/Scout star system when it comes to schools like Nevada. First, they don't have anybody who covers Nevada recruiting and second, they completely dismiss anybody who either may have been a late bloomer (eg. Cody Fajardo, Sebastian Tretola, Brock Hekking, etc) or who was under the radar because maybe they were from a smaller school or a too far out to evaluate them (eg. Taylor George, Matt Galas, Lemar Durant, etc.)

The only way to truly evaluate these commits is by watching their tape and seeing for yourself what they bring to the table, in that regard the premium subscription has been great. I'll tell you from watching these young mens' videos, this class is HIGHLY underrated by the major recruiting sites.

I have seen the videos Lemar Durant's family is posting on youtube. I don't quite know what to make of them. He puts up better numbers than Lebron in basketball, and his Football tape he is a one man show. However, some of those kids he's playing against don't even look 14.

As for the defense, I would have thought we'd have an easier time recruiting big name players to not only play right away, but support our offense and contend for a WAC title. If Ault can't sell our situation to top not defensive players then something continues to be very wrong.

BTW, welcome to the board William. I'm not sure if you're the same guy who posts on the RGJ blog with that username but I think you'll see the major difference between this site and the RGJ in regard to Nevada football and basketball coverage.

Only a few hours into signing day and you're already calling this recruiting class "lousy?" I beg to differ, and the premium site affirms this.

For Nevada, you just can't rely on the rivals star system. Perfect example, Colin Kaepernick and Vai Taua were 2 star recruits. The guys at the major sites just don't have the time, energy or financial incentives/reward that are necessary in order to cover the kids that Nevada is recruiting. They make their money off the same 30 schools every year, so they spend their time covering the kids that those schools are recruiting. If Nevada is in on one of those kids, you'll see content galore. If the big schools aren't on the kids we are recruiting, expect a 1 star or 2 star ranking with no photo, no articles and no videos. That's where S&B Sports fills the void and actually shows the fan base the talent and tells the story. Harsh reality, but reality none the less.

I believe he changed to a 3 star after we signed him, but you could be right. In any event, do you think a 3 star was accurate or do you think a 4 star or 5 star was more appropriate? I will tell you right now that I would much rather have CK at the helm than a 5 star guy like Jimmy Clausen- just saying.

Are you expecting us to go into our main recruiting areas and compete for the guys with Pac-10 offers? Let's be realistic here, Nevada is a "mid-major" in the WAC; how many "big name recruits" has Boise St convinced to go there? Some of these guys did have offers from BCS schools and some guys, like Chris Metcalf ,were signed because of academic issues but again all you can do, as a mid-major, is put your hat in the ring and hope that the kids realize that going the BCS route doesn't always equal success and it's probable they wouldn't see the field until their Junior/Senior year.

On that note, our mid-year class is full of top notch defensive players who have the opportunity to make an immediate impact - Jared Jackson, Dean Faddis, Bubba Boudreaux, and Deandre Boughton all come to mind.

I gotta admit, this class looks very weak. I know star rankings mean little but none of these kids had offers from Pac 10 schools and most had competiting offers from the FCS ranks. Losing out on Mobely and Galea are huge losses imo. There are some good looking prospects in Durant and Farardo but the frosh recruits look to be mostly tweeners and FCS caliber athletes.

really sad how a lot of people in this community want success before they support it. They want the Football program to be like Boise State but dont realize the amount of support that program had before they became what they are today.

Also most of what is in the RGJ is negative and doesnt go into enough detail to explain the real story behind the decommits or the "lost" players.

William, I have been a premium member for almost a year now and AW does a great job and the videos of these players show without a doubt that they are talented kids.

As far as worth the price. I look at it this way:

Its exciting to see the future of the program, its good to know how hard our coaches are working to bring in kids who will win.

Sometimes I wonder if I even want to know what goes on in the recruiting process as sometimes is seem its like making sausage (the end product is great, but watching and knowing the process can be disgusting at times).

Mostly I continue to support this site because I think its good for the university, I believe it actually helps recruiting and I believe now, after a couple years of not being a member and bitching about the premium den, that this site can help both football and basketball reach new levels.

I put a little of my hard earned cash to try and help nevada succeed. I am down onFB right now as alot of people are, but I will buy 2 season tickets again next year, I have been a BB season ticket holder for a decade. I am willing to support a program that wants to grow...and I really think both FB and BB are close to getting over the hump and becoming national powers.

most of the RGJ comments are haters, and I suspect you are one too....but I did read one comment in the rgj stating something to the effect that if people dont like Ault and think we can do better, they should pack mackay stadium every game and donate to the program and put their money where their mouth is. For $325,000 we aint going to do any better than Ault, so if you want him gone, put money in the Athletic budget so Groth/Glick can pay big money to get a coach that recruits better and prepares better.

just my opinion anyway. IF you are a hater william, continue hating away, otherwise, a true fan makes investments in what they care about.....its not any different than any other community issue. ...if you care you put some effort into making it better

Maybe it's time someone stepped to the plate and donated the 60k to hire us a recruiting coordinator? What is the point of having the extra defensive coaches if we can't get it done to begin with in recruiting? It just seems we took a noticable step backwards this year, where at once it appeared we had momentum.

I don't think I have ever seen a team I followed with as much riding on next season.

I'm sure Darth will correct me if I'm wrong but if I remember correctly I don't even believe Colin had a Rivals page when he signed. He was a 1-star on Scout and then went up to a 2-star after he signed with Nevada. That 3-star ranking is new to me, I wouldn't doubt that it was raised after he started.

Post of the month J. Couldn't have said it better myself. If we want to be big time, it's time we all start putting our wallets where our mouths are and support the program. Without good support and a good foundation, no solid house can be built!

Here is Colin's ranking #34 pro style QB and the list was made 1/30/2006. That should lay to rest the rumors that CK was a no star/2 star on signing day.

Nevada was the only Football schollarship Colin was offered. I would bet most of the kids listed as 3 stars would have multiple offers. Out of 117 d-1 schools, only one was willing to offer the #34 QB a scholly? Me thinks that was changed.

weird stuff,

I have seen our new BB recruit Jordan Burris drop from an ESPN ranking of 90 (which means talented enough to start on a top 25 bb team) to now an 87 (classified as probably starting for a top national program). This after he get ESPN high school athlete of the week for dropping 50 points one game and 30 points in another.

I think there is some validity in the ranking and star system as most national top 10 team do manage to get 4 and 5 star kids year in a year out, but I think they miss alot and I have seen some pretty wierd rankings.

I'm sorry man, but kids who go on to get drafted in the NBA or NFL draft and have a career (even if it's no more than a sneeze) in the league should not be 2 star recruits.

In going back, it looks like Vai Taua was actually a no star recruit.

There are also more examples:

Jerome Johnson- who played for the St Louis Rams last year and will play for the NY Giants this year, another 2 star recruit. http://rivals.yahoo.com/nevada/football/recruiting/player-Jerome-Johnson-45385
