Recent Nevada addition Kevin Panzer, a 6-foot-9, 205-pound shooting forward from Capistrano Valley high school in Orange County, was one to watch on the AAU scene this past summer. We first caught him at the Cal Elite Camp in Northern California, and you can see why we didn’t miss him.

He was probably the top surprise addition to the Nevada roster for the 2010-11 season, but East Chicago point guard Derrell Conner will quickly be a Pack veteran. As one of just three upperclassmen—-all juniors—-he will be looked up to immediately for leadership by Nevada head coach David Carter’s second Pack squad.

When we first saw Kevin Panzer this summer in Northern California, he wasn’t the first player who jumped out at us.  That distinction would go to Bakersfield (Calif.) athlete Jordan Burris.  However, Panzer wasn’t far behind, and coincidentally enough both he and Burris will play together at Nevada.

A little more than a week ago, Nevada hosted two Junior College prospects on official visits, including the already signed Australian big man Illiwa Baldwin. The other visitor was a former East Chicago (Ind.) high school point guard named Derrell Conner, who decided today to sign with Nevada as well.
