Fresno State-Nevada Game Photos
Not a lot of people around the Western Athletic Conference would have predicted that Nevada would be tied for second place halfway through the schedule, but there they are, 5-3, playing as well as anyone not named Utah State. After the Pack started out the season 1-7, winning a conference crown seemed like a mile away. It’ll be tough to take down those Top 25 ranked Aggies next Wednesday night on the road, but David Carter’s young team is playing with a lot of confidence.
They’ll need it if they are going to pull off what would be a mammoth upset in the WAC. They’ll need to hang together and play 40 solid minutes of basketball in the face of what should be a hostile crowd. Nevada actually had a 10-point second half lead against Utah State when they played in early January at Lawlor Events Center, and still found themselves in a tie game with under 9 minutes to go.
But the Aggies can overwhelm teams with strong runs, and they finished the game in a dynamite fashion to essentially steamroll the Pack 81-67. The good news for Nevada is that they’ve only lost once since the defeat to the Aggies, bullying their way past .500 in the conference and putting themselves in a position to be USU’s one potential threat in the WAC.
After beating Fresno State, 79-76, Nevada has at least given themselves an opportunity to be that team now.
