Nevada takes on the Pilots
Prior to the Wolf Pack’s Western Athletic Conference opener on New Years Eve against Hawaii, Nevada (3-9) will play one more non-conference game against Portland (10-3). The Pilots are off to another strong start in 2010, balancing the play of senior’s Luke Sikma and Jared Stohl with former Modesto Christian standout and current Portland junior guard Eric Waterford.
The Pilots have lost to Kentucky (79-48), Washington State (84-68) and Washington (94-72) for their three defeats, yet all were neutral or road contests. They are currently unbeaten at the Chiles Center this season, with their most recent win over Boise State. The 10 wins are the most ever by a PSU team prior to Christmas.
Portland State starts all upperclassmen, and brings in super-frosh Tim Douglas, a dynamite 5-foot-10 point guard from Cerritos, as their spark off the bench. So once again, the youthful Wolf Pack will be tested on the road against a veteran-heavy line-up.
