Beau Boyster 150-1Few prep teams in L.A have played a tougher schedule than the Braves of St. John Bosco.  Nevada freshman QB Cody Fajardo’s former team, Servite high, which won the California State title, and still ranks as one of the Top 20 HS teams in the country after starting the year 7-0, was just one of the Braves’ foes.  But that’s exactly what class of 2012 prospect Beau Boyster wanted when he transferred in.

“The transition to St John Bosco was tough at first, but it was for the better,” Boyster said. “I probably have the best high school O-Line coach in the country. He played and started 3 years at Oregon and has taught me so much.  Coming from a family of football like I do, that says a lot.  My offensive coordinator is also awesome, along with my head coach. They’ve taught me a lot more about football, so I feel much more ‘football smart’, if you will.

“I’ve really stepped my game up and I couldn’t have found a better situation.”

“So far we are 4-3,” Boyster said about the Braves overall record. “We lost to the number one team in the state (Servite), then Mater Dei who is another Top 5 program, plus Lakewood, who is ranked as well.

“We lost those three games basically on the last drive.”

While winning every contest is always the focus, Boyster, whose first sport was actually Ice Hockey, knows that week in and week out it is about getting better.

“I think I have definitely improved on my strength, but there is still room for improvement,” Boyster added. “I have gained a lean 15 pounds since the off-season, so I’m at 285 now.

“Also, like I said earlier, my O-Line coach has really improved my game.  I think playing in the hardest league in the nation against kids who will point out your weaknesses, you know, I feel like I have learned what my main ones are and I’m focused on improving on them as much as I can.

“I feel like I have become more of a mean, but smart player with the high-tempo practices we have everyday at Bosco.”

That work has clearly paid off with the release of Boyster’s junior highlight film, which you can see by clicking below;

Boyster, who stood out this past summer at one of Nevada’s team camps, continues to be one a recruit to watch in the 2012 class.

“When I became a junior, my recruiting really picked up,” Boyster said about his recruitment.  “I have been getting contacted by a couple of Pac-10 schools, including Oregon and UCLA.  Those are probably the hardest ones recruiting me.  I’ve also heard from San Diego State and most of the teams in the WAC as well.

“With the option to play at Nevada one day, I definitely would put them right there with Oregon and UCLA.

“In fact, my favorite schools in order right know would be Nevada, then Oregon, UCLA and San Diego State.  I plan on making my decision sooner rather than later.”

The Wolf Pack, which dropped out of the Top 25 a week ago after suffering their first loss of the season, rejoined the Top 25 this week after slotting at No. 24 in the BCS rankings.  Like a number of recruits, the national attention has been more than noticeable for numerous prospects, including Boyster.

“I love watching Nevada play,” Boyster stated.  “I have watched every game so far this year with a smile on my face with the exception of Hawaii. Just watching them go out and dominate a Pac-10 team made me feel really good knowing that if I play there one day we’d be good enough to not only beat a top notch Pac-10 school, but dominate them.

“It also makes me feel good about the coaching at Nevada and how they progress players’ there. Coach Ault, being the creator of the Pistol offense, which is what my high school runs and a lot of the schools now around the country run, makes you want to play there because you know for a fact that he knows how to coach it and fine tune everything.

“Also, I want to be a coach myself someday, so who better to learn it from then the creator itself?  I’m excited to see Nevada break the top 25 again, and can’t wait to watch them beat Boise State at home.”
