Colin Kaepernick 150-10Finally, it was Nevada’s turn to move on up.  Although the opportunity seemed to pass in middle June when conference foe Boise State left the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) for the Mountain West Conference, Nevada got the invite that the programs and players’ truly wanted all along this afternoon. Listen to this special edition of “The Howl” for the latest.

A better television contract? Check. More financial power? Check.  A more competitive football and basketball conference? Check. It all makes sense for the University of Nevada as they also depart the WAC and head to the MWC.

“It is a momentous day for the University of Nevada-Reno,” President Milton Glick said. “Today we were extended an invitation to join the Mountain West Conference with Fresno State and we have informed them that we will be accepting the invitation.  The WAC has been wonderful and we have many friends, and it will be hard to say goodbye.

“The Mountain West Conference has made it very attractive to us to join.”

“I have learned at my time at Nevada that anything is possible,” Nevada athletic director Cary Groth added.

In this edition of “The Howl”, we take at how some of the news broke, BYU’s involvement, plus how things will look for Nevada as the future in the MWC (which will likely begin during the 2011-12 calendar) will look.
