Cody Fajardo 600-1Just a few days ago while we were in Southern California meeting up with a variety of 2010 class Nevada recruits, we stopped up by Servite high school to speak with Cody Fajardo, the quarterback of the State Champion Friars.  Not only did Fajardo have some news for us then, but tonight as well.

“I’m going to Nevada,” Fajardo said right when we showed up at the Servite practice field. “It’s done. I’m going to commit after school.”

True to his word, Fajardo spoke with Hall of Fame Nevada head coach Chris Ault after school and made his pledge.  The California state Player of the Year, Orange County Register and Los Angeles Times Player of the Year, plus the Pac-5 Player of the Year signaled an end to his recruitment.

But as is often the case, commitments are tested during the recruiting process. Especially late. And Fajardo, who was recruited by a host of schools across the country, including Nebraska and Arizona towards the very end of his commitment, was offered by the Cornhuskers tonight.

“Over a week ago, it was a situation where (Nebraska) had been recruiting me and I was scheduled to take a trip there,” Fajardo said. “I was excited about it, for sure. It’s a great program with a lot of history. But the night before my trip, they called and cancelled.

“Then tonight, they said we still have a spot for you and we’d like to take you. I just told them that I was sticking with Nevada.  I made my decision and that’s that. I couldn’t be any happier. I found a great program, a great coaching staff and I’m a man of my word.”

Fajardo is an extremely talented slinger who had the type of senior year that every player dreams about. He led his team to the California state title and went out on top to end his stellar prep career.
